2015-08-19 Ischia Porto Marina, Ischia Island to Gaeta, Italy Tangaroa in Porto d’Ischia Once again we leave this delightful port As we depart the port dark clouds loom in the sky With the dark clouds following us we leave the island of Ischia and head north west to the mainland town of Gaeta The thunder, rain and lightning caught up with us so the radar on the boat came in handy The thunderstorm passed us reasonably quickly and it wasn’t long before we approached the Italian mainland again Finally we near the old town of Gaeta with it’s castle and high cliffs Torre Orlando on the Gaeta Peninsular Gaeta town The town has a 6th Century Aragonese Castle which is in use today There is also a magnificent belltower and church in Gaeta Porto Santa Maria We drop anchor in the bay rather than go into a marina berth A wonderful view of the town from our boat The Gaeta Church of St Francis We go ashore by dinghy and fnd there is a craft market on tonight by the port We decide to go and explore the town before having dinner The Cathedral of Assunta e Sant’Erasmo with it’s amazing belltower He was hoping we would play ball with him!! Narrow lane ways and steps lead us up to the higher level of the town It was time to have a pre dinner drink at La Francese We once again ordered our favourite cocktails We dine at Antico Vico Ristorante tonight We have arrived early at 8.30 pm which is well before the Italians arrive We chose a table under the stars between the buildings A glass of bubbles arrive courtesy of the house As were the oysters …..and then the fried fish came before we could even place an order Our wine gets poured theatrically into a decanter The glasses also get rinsed in the wine The wine we ordered is a red from Montepulciano Excellent bread then arrives Ric orders a veal steak and vegetables I order the lobster with the spaghetti which was fabulous While we were having some time before ordering dessert, white chocolate almonds sweets and biscotti arrived A Mille Feuille dessert that arrives was big enough for four people We enjoy a wonderful dessert wine with our delicious Mille Feuille There is an amazing modern fresco painted on the entire wall in the restaurant Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
