2015-08-13 Ischia Porto Marina, Ischia Island to Isola Ventotene
Tangaroa in Porto d’IschiaMost of the boats that were around us have permanent moorings berths here. They go out for the day or when they stay overnight, a space becomes available at great cost!!A quick coffee and cake before our departureRic counts out the small change for his icecreamA nice goodbye from our helpful friend Antonio who looks after all the moorings hereGoodbye also to our friend from the Riva Destra Ristorante
As we leave the port a car ferry arrivesAfter leaving Porto d’Ischia we head along the north coast past a popular bay by the northwest point which is called Punta CornacchiaWe leave Ischia and continue west for a 3 hour journey to the island of VentoteneDuring our journey we cross paths with a tug pulling a large structure which looked very much like an oil rigVentotene our destination today, is getting closerA short distance east of Ventotene Island is a tiny 400m round island called San Stefano which is also known as the ‘Devil’s Island’San Stefano which was once used as a penal colony, was recently for sale for 20 million Euros and that was without the prisonThe old prison which was completed in 1797 was in use until as late as 1965We finaly arrrive at VentoteneNumerous yachts and motorboats are on anchor by the portAs the conditions are forecasted to be calm we put down our anchor for the night too, rather than pay for a marina berthIn the evening we were entertained by opera music coming from the area near this buildingA beautiful sunset over Ventotene
