2015-08-13 Ischia Porto Marina, Ischia Island to Isola Ventotene Tangaroa in Porto d’Ischia Most of the boats that were around us have permanent moorings berths here. They go out for the day or when they stay overnight, a space becomes available at great cost!! A quick coffee and cake before our departure Ric counts out the small change for his icecream A nice goodbye from our helpful friend Antonio who looks after all the moorings here Goodbye also to our friend from the Riva Destra Ristorante As we leave the port a car ferry arrives After leaving Porto d’Ischia we head along the north coast past a popular bay by the northwest point which is called Punta Cornacchia We leave Ischia and continue west for a 3 hour journey to the island of Ventotene During our journey we cross paths with a tug pulling a large structure which looked very much like an oil rig Ventotene our destination today, is getting closer A short distance east of Ventotene Island is a tiny 400m round island called San Stefano which is also known as the ‘Devil’s Island’ San Stefano which was once used as a penal colony, was recently for sale for 20 million Euros and that was without the prison The old prison which was completed in 1797 was in use until as late as 1965 We finaly arrrive at Ventotene Numerous yachts and motorboats are on anchor by the port As the conditions are forecasted to be calm we put down our anchor for the night too, rather than pay for a marina berth In the evening we were entertained by opera music coming from the area near this building A beautiful sunset over Ventotene Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
