The Palermo Cathedral was built in 1184 on the site of an ancient basilica

The main street of east Palermo is Corso Vittorio Emanuele with it’s festival lightsSusie organises a sweet bib for her grandsonIn the evening we happen to come across a lovely restaurant called GaginiThe decor in Gagini was modern and elagantThe delicious assortment of breads was presented in an attractive wooden boxA complimentary starter arrived in a jarWe shared a few interesting beautifully presented seafood starters
It is great to catch up on all the news from home with our friendsWonderfully presented fish was my choice this eveningRic chose the amazing pork dishThe side dish of vegetables also looked amazingThe bread chef was very proud of his breadThe chocolate dessert was to die for !!The festival lights were shining brightly in the main street We joined the crowds of people lining the main street to get a glimpse of the statue of the patron saint Rosalia as the procession came nearRosalia is the patron saint of Palermo and for over 390 years the city has been paying tribute to her with a festival in mid JulyThe festivities continue with dancers on a well lit stageOnce safely back at the boat the fireworks began – what a day!!
