2015-07-13 Castellamare Del Golfo to Yacht Club Del Mediterrano, Palermo Castellamare del Golfo Looking towards the marinas by the town Our German neighbours overnight Early morning light over the castle in Castellamare del Golfo As we have a 5 hour journey to Palermo, we make an early start this morning and leave the harbour well before 7am On our way to Palermo we pass the town of Terrasini which is near the major airport in Sicily The Palermo airport which is approximately an hour by car from Palermo One of the many aircraft arriving every day bringing plenty of tourists to Sicily – our first guests will be arriving here later today The stunning Capo Gallo Ancient lookouts can be seen high up on many of the points along the shores of Sicily Before arriving in Palermo we stop in a lovely bay to have a swim This amazing building dominates the long beach in the bay As we near Palermo we pass some lovely clusters of houses surrounded by trees and cliffs Finally the cranes and derricks from the commercial harbour of Palermo come into view The very long harbour breakwater in Palermo cannot be easily missed Palermo is a major port in Sicily for visiting cruise ships We arrive at the marina Ric had booked in the main harbour It was a disappointing start to our visit to Palermo!! One of our brand new electric bikes was stolen from outside a small supermarket, despite the fact that it was securely locked Great news follows shortly after the bike episode, with our Tasmanian friends flying in from Paris It is so nice to have Don and Susie come and join us on the boat for a while After settling in and enjoying a welcome glass of bubbles we set off in the evening to find a nearby restaurant for dinner Great reflections at the marina tonight We have a delightful dinner at a little Pizzeria called “Il Culinario” The friendly staff went out of their way to please us!!
