2015-07-01 Punta Longa, Favignana Island to Colombus Marina, Trapani, Sicily Montagna Grossa with fort Santa Caterina perched on it’s highest point on Favignana Island We leave the island and return to the coast of Sicily and continue west to the port of Trapani Arriving in Trapani we make our way to the Columbus Marina where we were recommended to stay by the mechanic that was booked to do some work on our boat The Port of Trapani in ancient times was originally the port for the nearby ancient hilltop town of Erice As the marina was tightly booked we were only able to get a berth along the outer pier with the smaller local boats -fortunately at a discounted price!! At the front entrance to the Colombus Marina is a statue of Maria Stella Maris a protector of the Mediterranean Sea Vincenso the mechanic was delayed a few hours so a coffee and a stroll around the town was on our adjenda No shortage of Italian Restaurants here in Trapani Statues are plentiful in town too The statue of Italian Patriot Giuseppe Garibaldi who lived in the 1800’s The ancient town of Erice perched on the hill behind Trapani This sheltered coastal beach is frequented by the locals and visitors in the summer months By Viale Regina Elena is the promenade along the waterfront The Avenue of beautiful trees also along the Viale Regina Elena The port houses hundreds of small local fishing vessels Our NZ friend John joins us for a pizza and a glass of wine Sunset in Trapani Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
