2015-06-12 Santa Maria Bay, Comino Island, Malta to Siracusa, Sicily A 5am Start for us for our 130 km trip from Malta to Siracusa in Sicily A large freighter heading west crosses our bow We see another ship heading east during our passage A pod of lively dolphins head for our boat The dolphins spend 10 minutes taking it in turns crossing our bow Very few vessels sailed near our course to Sicily My first glimpse of Sicily at Porto Palo Colourful houses and buildings line the Mediterranean foreshore at Porto Palo, Sicily A very modern design for this local church Abandoned asylum seeker boats on the shore nearby Capo Passero and it’s lighthouse looking north Rounding the point we motor north towards Siracusa Finally after 10 hours of motoring from Malta we arrive in the lovely old port of Siracusa Castello Maniace stands imposing at the entrance to the Grand Harbour of Siracusa Old buildings line the shore of Ortigia Island Arriving in the Grand Harbour we look back at the amazing scenery The Siracusa Marina is quite close by Once the anchor is dropped, it is time to relax after our long trip The ‘Destiny’ is also anchored in the bay John and Eva have also made the trip from Malta in the past couple of days Reconstruction of the town quay along the foreshore with the city’s Cathedral high in the background The dome on this super yacht in the harbour certainly is larger than most we have seen over the years! Another super yacht in the Grand Harbour overnight An Interesting Building beyond the old town quay foreshore Sunset in Siracusa Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
