2017-08-18 Moaira to Cala Horts, Ibiza Island

This morning we make a slightly earlier start, as we are finally leaving the Spanish coast and going across to the beautiful Balearic Islands
We leave the lovely anchorage of Moaira and make our course towards the closest Balearic Island of Abiza
The crossing to Abiza from Moraira, which is one of the closest safe anchorages to the islands, is approximately 50 nm and should take us about 6 hours
Superb sunrise!!
7.20 am and we have been underway for almost an hour

We have perfect conditions for our crossing this morning with very little wind and and very few other boats to worry about!! Occasionally we see a ship or a passing yacht!!
Looking back into the distance we see the Spanish coast
Hours later we see our first glimpses of Ibiza
As we approach Abiza from the south west of the island, the sea conditions still remain calm and comfortable for travelling
The small islets of Vedra and Vedranell on the south west point of Abiza
A super yacht has found a nice private mooring behind one of the small islets

We make our way into Cala Horts which reads as a good safe anchorage for the breeze conditions overnight
The Black Legend moored in the distance is 50 m long
At great speed a motor yacht exits the bay!!
Dropping our anchor safely in the middle of the bay we look forward to having our first swim in the Balearics
Cute wooden boat sheds line the shore below the colourful cliffs
Every bay in Spain has busy beaches and not too far away an equally busy restaurant or bar

Our new boating acquaintances Peter and Barbara from Auckland in New Zealand, join us for a drink aboard the Tangaroa
As Ric had made us a very large curry for dinner the night before, our guests were very happy to stay for the leftovers this evening!!
