2017-07-16 KL to Hotel Placa Vella, Sant Carles de la Rapita, Spain via London

Once we arrived at Stansted Airport we had ample time (several hours) before boarding our 2 hour Ryanair flight to Barcelona
At Barcelona Airport we boarded another bus for a further 2 hour trip to our final destination (with a couple of bus changes on the way) !!!!!
Following the coast in a south easterly direction we pass several towns on our way to Sant Carles de la Rapita
Along the Costa Dorada the land is very fertile
Finally we reach Sant Carles de la Rapita and catch a glimpse of the marina where the Tangaroa was stored on land since late September last year
On arrival we check into a local hotel called the Placa Vella, for a couple of nights
The view from our 3rd floor room at the Hotel Placa Vella, which was one of the only hotels with a vacancy on these dates!!! Fortunately it was clean and quite comfortable despite it’s age!!
We were keen to stretch our legs and have a late dinner after travelling all day
Many locals and holidaymakers were out this evening enjoying the warm and humid weather
The local church in the main square called Parroquia La Santísima Trinidad
Sant Carles de la Rapita has a general population of under 15,000 people, however during the summer period it is much more
There are several fine old buildings in the town
After dining here at Taverna Dalmau last year before our departure from Spain, we decided to return to enjoy some of the amazing food on offer!!
Ernesto recommends  a good Spanish red to accompany our food
We start with the amazing tomato, olive and tuna belly salad, sprinkled with the delicious local yellow olive oil
Next we share the fabulous mussels simply cooked with white wine
Ernesto, the very talented owner and chef of the restaurant, busy serving up our next course
Our main dish was absolutely delicious and was served traditionally with a fried egg
It was good to be back in Spain enjoying some the fabulous food here
How could we resist sharing the peach with homemade icecream!!
